The Quiet Reset: Micro-Shifts That Change Your Entire Nervous System

[00:00:08]:

So thanks to that moment of realisation, I can now see that November gets to be my month of completion. Not the month of sprinting, the month of finishing what feels coherent and releasing what doesn’t. Then December becomes my month of planning and initiation. Not the doing, the. The imagining, the leaning in the energetic prelude to the year that’s coming. Can you feel that in your body? It feels good, right? And of course, because we’re in the southern hemisphere, this rhythm aligns perfectly with the natural cycle that’s around us. Spring into summer, the shift from renewal to ripening, the softening before expansion. It’s a rhythm our bodies recognise even before our minds catch up.

[00:00:54]:

And that’s what I want to explore with you today. Not how to push through to the end of the year, not how to cram more into your calendar, but how to use micro moments to let your biology and your leadership arrive in the same place. So you complete the year in coherence rather than exhaustion. So let’s begin with why micro moments matter. And why they matter even more right now. See, most high achieving women have mastered the art of that year end sprint. It’s familiar, it’s predictable. There’s a sense of satisfaction in finishing strong, right? But your nervous system doesn’t operate the way your performance driven mind does.

[00:01:36]:

Your nervous system reads cues, not calendars. It pays attention to rhythm and resonance. It listens for signs of completion, not productivity. And when you offer your system even the smaller signals of softness, your biology recalibrates, your breath deepens, your prefrontal cortex sharpens, your emotional bandwidth increases, your ability to lead with clarity and presence expands. But here’s the part that matters most. For high achieving women. You may not be walking around thinking you crave softness. Often it’s far more subtle.

[00:02:16]:

You may notice moments where things feel heavier than you think they should. You sense that decisions you can normally make in a split second, they take a little longer. And it’s not long enough to trigger concern. Just long enough to register as why is this taking more energy than it needs to? Or sometimes there’s even that hint of brain fog, right? That faint sense of I know exactly what I want to say or do next, or that piece of information I can almost grab, but I can’t quite access it quite as quickly as usual. Not because you’ve lost your clarity, not because of the season of your life. You’re proud of your clarity. You’re proud of your wisdom. It’s one of the things that defines you.

[00:03:05]:

Instead, your system’s carrying more load than it usually does. Your thinking’s still sharp. It simply feels like each decision requires slightly more energy. And at this time of year, that extra energy matters. Right? These micro shifts restore what you value. Your sharp thinking, your decisiveness, your grounded leadership, your ability to read a room without absorbing it. They give you back your natural precision. So here are four micro shifts that support your biology and your leadership.

[00:03:39]:

So, micro shift number one. Two minutes to let your system catch up with you. Most professional women move between roles without pause. You go from leader to colleague to partner to parent, and there’s no transition window. Your mind keeps up, your body doesn’t. And here’s the key. Choose just one transition cue, just one. Otherwise it feels more like, oh, here’s another routine that I’m supposed to do on top of everything else.

[00:04:08]:

So here’s some ideas. You might simply notice your breath. You might feel your feet on the floor. You might step outside for a moment and register the temperature. You might let your shoulders drop. You might place your hand on your heart. You might write one clean sentence in your journal. Two minutes is enough to tell your nervous system that this moment is different from the last one you get to arrive.

[00:04:38]:

Your mind becomes clearer, your communication becomes easier. Your presence settles. Transition time isn’t indulgent. It’s neurological hygiene. Okay, here’s micro shift number two. Three conscious breaths before you respond. This one is subtle and it’s why I love it for ambitious women. Because so many of my clients say, I don’t want anyone to notice me doing a somatic reset.

[00:05:08]:

Three conscious breaths are invisible. Everybody breathes. The only difference is that your breaths are deep into the belly. They’re nice and slow. And if you can allow the exhale to be a little longer than the inhale, that’s a beautiful nervous system regulation practise. Those three breaths are enough to settle your autonomic nervous system. They bring more blood flow back to your prefrontal cortex. Why does that matter? Because it’s the part of your brain that supports planning, language, emotional regulation, and split second decision making.

[00:05:45]:

When your system is dysregulated, you can still make brilliant decisions, but they require more energy than usual. And at this time of year, you feel that energy cost. Three breaths returns you to your natural precision. They let you lead the moment rather than react to it. And this is not about calm. This is about coherence. Okay, micro shift number three. Your body loves one consistent nightly cue.

[00:06:15]:

Herbal medicine loves rhythm. And so does your nervous system. Now, you don’t need that perfect bedtime Routine. Your body simply loves a consistent cue. So it could be tea made with fresh lemon balm or some chamomile. It could be switching off the overhead lights and lighting a candle. It could be a warm bath with a cup of salt in it. My go to ratio is 50% table salt and 50% Epsom salts.

[00:06:41]:

A little magnesium bonus in there as well, right? It could be one simple journal line. Your nervous system recognises dependable signals. They help your body soften its alertness. They help your thoughts to settle. They support deeper rest. One cue is enough to tell your biology. It’s okay, you’re safe. You can stop now.

[00:07:06]:

And your last one. Microshift number four. Naming what’s complete completion is a biological state. And your nervous system responds to clarity. So when you name what’s complete out loud, or just loud enough for you to hear, your system receives a closure signal. So when you tick off that item on your to do list, affirm it with a quiet done or yes or say it out loud if you’re feeling bold. That simple sound tells your mind and body that it’s finished. Your thoughts stop looping.

[00:07:41]:

Your energy reorganises. You stop holding what no longer needs to be carried. This prepares your December for clarity and it rolls on into your January for ease. The end of the year isn’t a finish line, it’s a doorway. You get to choose how you walk through it. Hurried, scattered? Or stretched thin? Or coherent, centred and ready. These micro shifts guide your nervous system into completion. They settle your identity.

[00:08:13]:

They invite your leadership to land. And they prepare your whole system for the new year in a way that’s gentle, grounded and biologically aligned. So hey, if this conversation has been stirring something in you, if your body is asking for softness, or if your mind is craving clarity, I want to invite you into your 2025 closing experience.
